Kilchoman - Whisky Machir Bay Single Mat - 70cl
Reference: 17442
Founded in 2005 on the rugged coast of Islay, Kilchoman is one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries. Its first whisky was released in 2009. Although relatively new, the distillery produces its whiskies using traditional methods. Kilchoman is one of the few distilleries to malt its own barley and grow some of its own barley. The distillery therefore controls every stage of the whisky-making process, from barley to bottling. Kilchoman’s iconic Machir Bay is, before being a whisky, the name of a picturesque beach situated just a stone’s throw from the distillery on the island of Islay. This signature single malt is a blend of whiskies, 90 per cent of which have been matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and 10 per cent in Oloroso sherry casks. Heavily peated (50 ppm), unchill-filtered and uncoloured, it is characterised by powerful notes of ashy smoke, citrus, white and tropical fruits, enhanced by a hint of saltiness. - Origin: Scotland - Style: Smoky and elegant. - Nose: Smooth and harmonious. Baked fruit. Peat aroma. - Palate: Full-bodied. Notes of fruit and vanilla. - Finish: Long and lingering, with notes typical of Islay whiskies.
