What is the role of a manual shutter release?

A manual release plays a crucial role in fire safety in buildings. It enables anyone detecting a fire to manually trigger the fire alarm, quickly alerting all occupants to the imminent danger. Manual releases are often installed in strategic, easily accessible areas to ensure a rapid response in the event of a fire: near exits, in corridors, near staircases, at main entrances, in assembly areas such as lobbies or cafeterias, for example.

Where should a fire manual release be installed?

To ensure maximum efficiency, it is essential to install manual fire alarms in strategic locations, close to exits and in high-traffic areas, such as corridors and stairways in general. As for installation height, the standards recommend that they be placed at around 1.4 metres from the floor. This height is optimal for easy access by the majority of occupants, including people with reduced mobility. In addition, manual fire alarms must be clearly signposted and visible so that they can be spotted quickly in stressful situations.
