Ideally, the carbon monoxide detector should be placed in the same room as the home's fuel-burning appliance (boiler, wood-burning fireplace, gas cooker, barbecue, etc.) You can install it at respiratory tract level, but it's still important to maintain a distance of between 1 m and 3 m from the potential source of carbon monoxide.
