IG 541 is a mixture of nitrogen (52%), argon (40%) and carbon dioxide (8%), it is odourless, colourless, non-corrosive and consists of gases that are freely available in the atmosphere, does not affect the ozone layer and has zero heat-raising effect in the atmosphere. IG 541 extinguishes fire by reducing the oxygen level in the zone below 13% (where most materials stop burning).
