Nikka - Whisky Yoichi Single Mat - 70cl
“Reference: 19639E”
Renowned as much for its two single malts as for its blends of remarkable precision and great complexity, Nikka was born out of a genuine passion for whiskey, which Taketsuru discovered in Scotland. Founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, recognized as the founding father of Japanese whiskey, Yoichi—Nikka’s first distillery—is located on the coast of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island. Produced using traditional methods, such as direct heating over a charcoal fire, these malts perfectly capture the authentic character of this exceptional location with their marine and subtly peaty notes. A blend of whiskies of varying ages, it expresses a subtle balance between smoky, fruity, and floral aromas. - Origin: Japan - Nose: both firm and luscious. It oscillates between candied lemon and exotic fruits. With superb vanilla notes, it gradually becomes spicy (clove, pepper, nutmeg). Particularly fresh, it develops notes of verbena and tarragon. - Palate: lively and powerful. It is refined and elegant. Vanilla and praline initially coat the palate. The mid-palate highlights citrus and ripe fruits (pear, plum). Licorice adds an oily touch before honeysuckle, lily, and cardamom lend it an intoxicating quality. - Finish: long, rich. It reveals a spicy character. The influence of aging in bourbon barrels comes through in notes of vanilla and milk caramel. Subtle notes of ash and smoke gradually emerge. The retro-olfaction is marked by sweet orange and mango.
