Maison Christian Drouin is one of the jewels of Calvados production, particularly that of Calvados Pays d’Auge. Above all, it is a family story. From its very beginnings in the 1960s, Christian Drouin Sr. made a specialty of the rarest—that is, the oldest—Calvados. Today, the house offers the industry’s widest range of vintages. Produced through double distillation, this 100% Pays d’Auge apple Calvados is aged for at least 5 years in new barrels, followed by an additional 4 to 5 years in old barrels. Benefiting from a wide selection of casks (cider, calvados, port, and sherry casks, among others), the VSOP blend offers an incomparable range and richness of aromas. It opens with notes of ripe apples mingled with mild spices, vanilla, and cinnamon. The palate is supple, harmonious, and well-rounded. - Origin: France - Nose: alluring, imbued with freshness. Distinct notes of sweet cider, baked apple, and gingerbread. It opens with more herbal and floral notes. It becomes increasingly fruity, with hints of citrus and prune. Evokes almond liqueur. Beeswax. - Palate: full-bodied and gentle. The more pronounced oak provides structure and channels the fruity notes from the nose. Hints of sweet spices in the mid-palate. Beautiful balance. - Finish: Harmonious, without a hint of bitterness or astringency. It lingers on fruit, particularly apple. A hint of medicinal notes, clove, and arnica.
