Maison Christian Drouin is one of the jewels in the crown of Calvados production, and in particular of Calvados Pays d’Auge. It is, above all, a family affair. From the very beginning, in the 1960s, Christian Drouin senior specialised in the rarest – that is to say, the oldest – Calvados. Today, the house offers the widest range of vintages in the industry. Produced through double distillation, this 100% Pays d’Auge apple Calvados is aged for at least five years in new casks, followed by a further four to five years in old casks. Benefiting from a wide choice of casks (cider, calvados, port and sherry casks, amongst others), the VSOP blend offers an unrivalled range and richness of aromas. It opens with notes of ripe apples mingled with gentle spices, vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, it is supple, harmonious and well-rounded. - Origin: France - Nose: alluring, imbued with freshness. Distinct notes of sweet cider, baked apple and gingerbread. It opens with more vegetal and floral notes. It becomes increasingly fruity, with hints of citrus and prune. Evokes an almond liqueur. Beeswax. - Palate: full-bodied and gentle. The more pronounced oak provides structure and channels the fruity notes from the nose. Hints of sweet spices on the mid-palate. Beautiful balance. - Finish: harmonious, without the slightest hint of bitterness or astringency. It lingers on fruit, particularly apple. A hint of medicinal notes, clove and arnica.
